Family engagement is one of the most important factors in the pursuit of academic success. That is why it is essential for school staff and teachers to be prepared for working with English Language Learners (ELLs) so that they can better address and encourage family engagement among their ELL students and their families. The Latino Family Literacy Project offers workshops and webinars that educate school staff and teachers on ways to better understand and communicate with ELL students and their families, as well as how to better serve and guide them. Take a look at some of the programs offered by the Project.
Latino Family Literacy Project: Professional Development Workshops
The Latino Family Literacy Project offers professional development workshops that prepare school staff, administrators, and teachers for working with ELL students and families. These helpful workshops can be either in-person or online, whichever is more convenient for the parties involved.
Latino Family Literacy Project: In-Person Workshops
The Latino Family Literacy Project in-person workshops consist of a 3.5-hour training for the implementation of programs offered by the Project, which is a White House Bright Spot Winner. This workshop is ideal for teachers, administrators, bilingual aides, and parent coordinators. Upon completion of the workshop, participants will be better prepared for working with ELL parents and children for Title 1 and Title III Parent Involvement programs.
This training can be used to compliment all of our programs and can be implemented with any of our age-specific programs. Not only will participants obtain cultural competency for working with Hispanic ELL parents and children, but they will also learn a step-by-step method for each age-appropriate program.
Latino Family Literacy Project: Online Webinars
The Latino Family Literacy Project’s online webinars are 1.5 hours long and emphasize grade level specific programs offered by the Project. Webinars cover research and trends, which provide a cultural foundation and framework for understanding Hispanic parents and how to get them involved in the schooling and education of their children. The Project’s online webinars also teach about age-specific training, as well as ELD tools and curriculum.
Latino Family Literacy Project: District-Wide Workshops
The Latino Family Literacy Project offers a district-wide workshop for a minimum of 15 attendees. The Project goes out to school districts and conducts private 3.5 hour workshops at the date, time, and location of the district’s choice. Chosen staff will be trained to use the Project’s age-appropriate programs. Our district-wide workshops are available at no additional charge beyond our standard per person registration fee.
